U2: Innocence + Experience Tour

u2 2015 tourU2′s new album Songs Of Innocence was a resounding return, at least for some of us. (Rolling Stone would agree.) But even for those who have been left unmoved by U2′s recent music, the band’s live show is a thing to witness. Only Bruce Springsteen can claim to put on transcendent stadium-level live shows with the sort of regularity that U2 bring. It’s not cheap to go see them, but it’s worth saving up a few weeks. And now, the band has finally announced the first wave of dates on the global tour that we all knew was coming. As of now, the band will only play 19 cities on the Innocence + Experience tour, but they’re playing multiple nights in every city. They’re also playing indoor arenas, and they might be the only band in the world where these constitute intimate shows.

The Innocence + Experience Tour kicks off May 14th with a pair of shows at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, giving Bono ample time to recover from his recent “horrific” injuries. The jaunt will also mark the first time in nearly a decade that U2 plotted a tour of indoor arenas, which will give the audience a more intimate setting to hear the band perform Rolling Stone’s Number One album of 2014 live. Tickets for the North American dates of the trek will go on sale Monday, December 8th to the general public. While not on the current itinerary, U2 also plan on returning to Dublin, Ireland at the end of next year for some special shows that will benefit the U2-initiated Music Generation project.

“I think we will start small. We certainly can’t get any bigger than the last tour,” the Edge recently told Rolling Stone of U2’s tour plans. The name of the tour also suggests the band might reveal some tracks from their planned Innocence follow-up Songs of Experience. “We are going to try to have a completely different feeling from night one to night two and have some fun playing with the idea of innocence and experience,” Bono said in a statement. “More to be revealed!”
