One of the most successful US bands of the past decade, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, will release ‘Tales of Winter: Selections From The TSO Rock Operas’ on November 18th. The album is a 15-track collection spanning the band’s five albums to date, featuring their unique brand of “rock theatre”, which brings together elements of prog, metal, classical and musicals. Described as Pink Floyd, meets The Who, meets Yes, this oeuvre has seen them take the rock opera into a whole new world, adapting the cohesive elements of Broadway plays to create compelling and emotionally powerful narratives to match the epic scope of their music.
In addition to the collection, the band will release the Christmas single ‘Sarajevo 12/24’ on December 16th. The song is inspired by the incredibly moving story of Vedran Smailovic, known as the “Cellist of Sarajevo”, who played his cello in the ruins of buildings during the siege of the city during the Bosnian War. Following a massive 100-date tour, including two shows per day, of the US throughout November and December, the band will tour Europe in January. The Europe Winter Tour 2014 will take in 15 cities in eight countries, beginning with the band’s first UK shows for three years:
10th Manchester O2 Apollo
11th London Eventim Apollo
TSO played live to over one million people in 2012, in the US alone. They have played live to over 10 million people since their first tour in 1999. ‘Tales of Winter: Selections From The TSO Rock Operas’ will be released through Decca/Universal and available on CD with an accompanying DVD, which features ‘The Ghosts Of Christmas’ TV special; a unique fantasy trip through the magic of Christmas. Trans Siberian Orchestra was formed in 1993 by producer, composer and lyricist Paul O’Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli (both members of Savatage) and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team. Since then they have released five albums, selling over 10 million copies and performed live to over 10 million people. TSO donates $1 from every ticket sold to charity and in the past 14 years has donated over $10 million dollars to local causes. They have redefined the live show, with a 30-piece ensemble bringing O’Neill’s vision to life and hi-tech dazzling visuals with a $20 million-plus production value. They pride themselves on giving their fans a truly out-of-this-world experience.
