Fuelled by the raw elements of rock n roll and intense desire to write great songs, LA’s Black Belt KARATE have exploded onto the California scene with their fresh combination of desert rock, New York indie punk and garage rock, and are set make their mark in the UK with the release of their debut EP ‘Volume 1’ on 19 August. Black Belt KARATE’s honest and fresh sound has been likened to the vibe of Rival Sons with the spice of Queens of the Stone Age, and they have been taking stages by storm throughout California. Relentless gigging and a powerful live show has ensured a quick rise from club level to big stages, with the band most recently performing at the Ink-n-Iron Festival in Long Beach, playing alongside the likes of Iggy and The Stooges, Sublime, Bad Brains, Rocket From The Crypt, The Offspring, Dead Kennedys and many more.
Very much a part of the LA rock elite, Black Belt KARATE’s members are also in bands with many of the stars. Guitarist Jason Achilles Mezilis and Chris Wyse of The Cult play in hard rock band Owl and bassist Harry Ostrem tours with Guns n Roses’ Dizzy Reid’s band for starters. Drummer Ryan Brown has an incredible CV which currently includes being in Dweezil Zappa’s touring band Zappa Plays Zappa, has recorded with the likes of Alex Lifeson, David Bowie and a long list of performances as a percussionist on many prominent Hollywood film scores.
