Following the release of their album “Chateau Revenge’ last year, which received a whole lot of love from the UK, Nashville quartet The Silver Seas will be releasing their 4th album, “Alaska” via The Lights label on July 8th 2013.
“This is our ‘country’ record” says singer/writer Daniel Tashain. “This is how the Silver Seas play country music. It’s spacious, ethereal at times. There is plenty of Joe’s steel guitar. The songs are about distance. Distance between places, weather, people, ideas. It’s about somewhere you would never stumble upon, you have to deliberately go to Alaska. I’ve never been there, I don’t know if I will ever go, but I have a beautiful idea of what it’s like. I picture clear, clean air and big wonderful bears and streams with fish jumping. I see Evergreen trees and a glimpse of the unspoiled wild that I long for. And snow. I imagine breathing the cold air, feeling so alive as it fills my lungs. Alaska was recorded live in 5 days in December 2012 at Middletree studios, East Nashville”
It was produced by Joe Pisapia ( Guster, k.d. lang, Ben Folds Five) and will be available on CD/vinyl /download. Including the title track, the songs include ‘Roxy’ (a song written with Josh Rouse), ‘Wolfie’, ‘I’m The One’, ‘Sea Of Regret’, ‘Karaoke Star’, ‘Lights Out’, ‘A Night On The Town’, ‘I Don’t Want To Work’, As The Crow Flies’ and ‘Wild Honey’.
“9/10. Alaska – definite contender for album of the year!” Hot Press
Previously, the band have busked their way around the capital’s landmarks, toured the UK, played Latitude Festival, performed on ‘Later…With Jools Holland’ as well as being introduced as “the best band in the world” by Danny Baker. The Word magazine (RIP) said “This is uncurdled pop music, the kind of thing you could sprinkle on your dreams and eat with a spoon”, whilst the Guardian, Mojo, GQ, and Classic Rock all heaped plaudits on the band.
Now they’ll be back playing more festivals and few intimate shows to preview the new album. Dates are:
29th June – Dublin, Whelans
30th June – Westport Festival, Co. Mayo
2nd July – London, Slaughtered Lamb (acoustic show with singer Daniel Tashain) http://quietworddanieltashian.eventbrite.co.uk
3rd July – London, The Lexington
6th July – Hebden Bridge Trades Club

The Silver Seas’ Daniel Tashian and Jason Lehning were raised deep within the Nashville music scene. Tashian’s dad Barry was lead singer of the Boston-based, mid-sixties cult combo the Remains and subsequently toured with Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band. Grammy winning producer Lehning’s dad Kyle is a well-respected country music producer and the former president of Asylum Records Nashville. While the young Lehning apprenticed behind the boards, Tashian was developing into a formidable singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Tashian, has a knack for creating instantly memorable melodies to pair with often plaintive lyrics, though he’s no show-off; his craftsmanship seems effortless, as if he just dashed off these sneakily addictive numbers in his spare time. They are joined by David Gehrke on drums, and Joe Pisapia taking on bass duties on ‘Alaska’.
