BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR FESTIVAL are thrilled to announce that seminal thrash metal legends, SLAYER are confirmed as the third and final headliner for Bloodstock 2013.

The Californian four-piece will close the Ronnie James Dio stage on Sunday night at Catton Park, bringing their face-melting, monster riffs to the metal hoardes.  Guitarist, Kerry King comments; “Can’t wait to hit the stage at Bloodstock!  Metal Festival in England?  Fuck yes!!  It’s going to be hell on earth and I’m looking forward to having a party with all my British friends.”

Check out the stone-cold classic Slayer track ,‘Raining Blood’, over at or this pyro-laden, fan-filmed footage of ‘Hell Awaits’ from this summer’s US Mayhem Fest –  and get ready for the UK’s best metal gathering next August.   You can also find out a little info on the new Slayer album (due Autumn 2013), direct from Kerry King, in this chat with Revolver magazine over at:

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR festival is thrilled to confirm that their 2013 Saturday night headliner will be groove-metal overlords, LAMB OF GOD. The headline appearance will only be the Richmond, VA-based band’s second UK show since the release of their critically lauded ‘Resolution’ album back in January 2012.  The riff-stacked album bulldozed on to the US Billboard album chart at #3 and racked up Top 20 status in the UK, cementing their status as natural successors to Pantera’s post-thrash crown.  As Metal Hammer put it, “There’s still no band on this planet that rips faces and sets heads banging like Lamb Of Oh-My-Fucking God.  Outstanding.”  Check out the video for ‘Ghost Walking’, the lead video track from ‘Resolution’ here:

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR festival is excited to announce Californian circle-pit kings, DEVILDRIVER, and thrash metal outfit MUNICIPAL WASTE on to the 2013 bill.

DEVILDRIVER are set to release a brand new album in August 2013, so Bloodstock will be your first opportunity to check out a brand new track or two!  DevilDriver’s firebrand frontman, Dez Fafara is looking forward to next year’s fest, commenting; “DevilDriver is fucking stoked to be coming to Bloodstock!!  We are thrilled to playing alongside our good friends in Lamb Of God, and no doubt the weekend is going to be insane!  Grab a ticket and come get in the pit!  DevilDriver won’t let ya down!”  Check out this section from the band’s little-seen ‘warts n’ all’ documentary, ‘You May Know Us From The Stage’ (catch up with the remaining parts on YouTube).

Die-hard road warriors, MUNICIPAL WASTE are also looking forward to joining their Richmond, VA, hometown buddies & Saturday night headliners, Lamb Of God at Catton Park in August 2013. Ryan Waste enthused, “We are bloody chuffed to rock the BOA once again.  It was my favourite UK festival to date and now that King Diamond and Accept have been added, I’m more excited than ever!” Check out the band’s first animated video, for the track ‘You’re Cut Off’, taken from their fifth and most recent disc, ‘The Fatal Feast’ at:  Released in April through Nuclear Blast, the intergalactic, cannibalistic record is choc-full of ‘Waste trademarks: aggressive headbang-inducing riffs, tongue-in-cheek humour, and meaning extracted from the absurd.  Besides their musical voyage into space, Municipal Waste are currently rippin’ up tarmac across the USA with Napalm Death and Exhumed.

Power metal supergroup, AVANTASIA step into Sunday’s ‘special guest’ slot.  Spearheaded by EdGuy frontman, Tobias Sammet, AVANTASIA was originally intended as a one-off side project, but has since turned into an ongoing musical love affair.  A new “rock/metal opera” album is in the works, set for a late Spring 2013 release, and the Bloodstock set is one of only a few handpicked European festival appearances for the group next year.  Tobias enthuses, “I know I once said we weren’t gonna do it again, but then I don‘t see a reason to let this die.  I wanna put on the biggest thing you have ever seen, I wanna bring more vocalists, play longer shows, and just make it a giant Rock Opera…..I am so looking forward to it.  The stage designer has just showed me his stage & light design, and it looks absolutely killer.  2013 will be a major year for Avantasia, and people don’t have a clue how big things are actually going to be!  I am very excited – the album will be amazingly epic, and the tour will be too!”  Recording for the new album is already underway and while guest musicians are still being revealed, ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick recently confirmed his involvement.  Learn more in this studio report with Tobias –

Also added to the bill are Knoxville deathcore crew, WHITECHAPEL.  Their self-titled fourth album was released in June through Metal Blade, and the band spent the summer melting tarmac on the Mayhem Festival tour in the US (alongside Slipknot, Slayer, Motorhead… and Bloodstock compadres, Anthrax). The album’s lead single, ‘Hate Creation’ can be checked out here:

Canadian death metallers, KATAKLYSM also step on to the BOA 2013 stage.  “We played Bloodstock years ago and it was a crazy good time; we didn’t make it to England for our latest album, ‘Heaven’s Venom,’ so playing Bloodstock is the perfect gift to all our UK fans that have been pounding our doors to come back… the IRON WILL will be present,” comments frontman, Maurizio Iacono.  Watch their most recent video for ‘Edge of the World’ at   ‘Heaven’s Venom’, their tenth album, was released by Nuclear Blast in 2010.

Not content just playing Bloodstock with KATAKLYSM, Maurizio Iacono also brings his Roman-themed supergroup, EX DEO to the festival.  The band features members of Martyr, Blackguard, and his other Kataklysm cohorts.  The band’s second album, ‘Caligvla’, released by Napalm Records on 31st August 2012 – the 2000th birthday of Emperor Caligula – featured guest appearances from members of Tristania, Graveworm, All Shall Perish, and Septic Flesh. The video for ‘I, Caligvla’ featuring Maurizio’s girlfriend/Colombian model, Suzzy and can be seen at   Gladiators…. ready!?!

Also added as a UK exclusive, are Finland’s AMORPHIS.  Esa Holopainen, Amorphis’s guitarist and driving force had this to say; “Greetings from Hell-sinki’s 5K studio where Amorphis is finishing recording our forthcoming 11th album.   Our agent gave us the great news that we are booked for Bloodstock Festival 2013!  Bloodstock has become one of the best European metal events, so it’s an honour to be part of the festival again.  We promise to put on an epic show, so keep the horns up and see you at Bloodstock next summer!”  Want to know more about the forthcoming Peter Tägtgren-produced opus?  Check out Part 1 of their studio report video series here:  The new album is due out through Nuclear Blast Records in Spring 2013.

Swedish black metal legends, DARK FUNERAL also join the bill.  2013 is shaping up to be a landmark year for DARK FUNERAL; not only do they play Catton Park’s hallowed grounds, but 2013 marks their 20th anniversary as a band, and a new studio album (‘In The Sign of The Horns’) will be released via new label, Century Media.  Founder and guitarist, Lord Ahriman leads his revamped band, now fronted by Nachtgarm, full throttle into a new Satanic crusade in 2013.  Hail the goat!!
