OTW: 2013: Sam Garrett

One to watch for 2013 – Sam Garrett: www.samgarrettmusic.com

Sam Garrett is a man with a message. Having grown up in the surrounds of Derbyshire’s natural wonder and under early influences of this dad’s vinyl collection, this twenty one year old is a singer-songwriter is intent on sharing his musings and stories of the world as he understands it.

Garrett jokes that his song writing was terrible until he first heard the depth of melody and harmony of The Beatles’ music and the politico-social story telling that artists like Bob Marley wove into the fabric of his, but Garrett’s music is more than flattering mimicry. His is a unique voice, spurred on by the news of a world dissatisfied at its core, but one he believes can find happiness in the awareness and kindness we bestow upon each other.

Garrett has recently released his debut EP ‘Be Easy. The EP features five songs, ‘Hope’, ‘Call You Mine’, ‘The River’, ‘Be Easy and ‘Don’t Let Go’, providing the perfect taster of what is yet to come in 2013. With contagious melodies and memorable hooks the EP showcases Garrett’s unique and distinctive vocals and his honed song writing skills. Garrett creates a sound that’s satisfyingly hard to define – sitting somewhere between traditional singer songwriter sensibilities, reggae influences and laid back folk sounds. The singer songwriter has been working with the likes of producer Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith, Nina Nesbitt to name a few)  and UK rapper Sway on new material so this EP is just the beginning for this talented artist and has affirmed Sam Garrett as a talent to watch and with his debut album on the agenda in 2013 we can only expect great things.
